Research lesson plans:
K-2 Adventures in Nonfiction guided inquiry activity introduces students to using information books for research. Students practice browsing and skimming for important facts, developing follow-up questions, finding answers to those questions and sharing with their class.
K-2 Sequencing Before-During-After activity for observation, recording, and creating a class book while carving a Jack-O-Lantern. Instruction are given for both actual pumpkin or virtual creation on a website.
3-5 Collaborative Inquiry project from ReadWriteThink - lesson is for Gold Rush, but easily adaptable for any big topic research theme. Includes links for handouts, organization tools, and several types of information sharing generation tools for students to share their findings in engaging ways using technology.
3-5 Classroom Newspaper creation project from ReadWriteThink guides students through identifying parts and format of a newspaper, writing newspaper stories, editing articles, and finally creating a newspaper for their own classroom or school. Includes links for reading selections, handouts, research, and generation tools that integrate technology and real world practice.
3-5 Media Literacy project from ReadWriteThink - invites critical thinking about junk mail and what is behind it.
